The Port of Gdansk is situated in a central part of southern section of Baltic Sea coast and on the route of Trans-European Transportation Corridor No. 6 connecting Scandinavia with Southern and South Eastern Europe and divided into two parts - the Inner Port and the Northern Port. In the Inner Port there are specialized cargo handling terminals: the Gdansk Container Terminal providing feeder services, the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal, the Polferries Ferry Terminal, the fruits handling terminal at the Port Free Zone and other bulk cargo handling terminals. The remaining wharves in the Inner Port have a universal character.Modern handling and storage facilities for such bulk
cargo as crude oil, heating oils and fuels, coal and LPG are located in the deepwater Northern Port where the largest vessels that enter the Baltic Sea can be serviced.
The area of Northern Port holds considerable land reserves for current and future projects. This year a Contract on leasing of area was signed, with British investor DCT Gdansk SA, to construct and manage a deepwater container terminal within the Port of Gdansk. The main activity of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA is managing of the port land and infrastructure and planning of port development. Total annual throughput capacity of the Port of Gdansk amounts to 65 million tonnes. |
