 Volga Shipping Company is accomplishing fleet preparation for the 2016 navigationCargo, towing, technical fleet and auxiliary vessels of the Volga Shipping are in the final stage of repairing at the company maintenance bases and ship-repairing yards.
10 vessels of cargo and towing fleet are going through scheduled average repairing (repair of the hull, machinery and electrical equipment), it is planned to repair 17 non-self-propelled vessels (barges). During the internavigational period the Volga Shipping vessels are located in the aquatic areas of the Volzhsky fleet maintenance base (Volgograd region) and the Bor fleet maintenance base (Nizhny Novgorod region).
A specific feature of ship-repairing before the navigation in 2016 is the first special survey of the RSD44 project vessels after five years of operation on the inland waterways and in the coastal sea areas. Over the whole period of operation there were no wrecks neither accidents caused by engine or equipment failures. The vessels hull structure proved to be reliable and riding out storms.
During the internavigational period five RSD44 project vessels are located at the Volzhsky fleet maintenance base, the other five are being repaired in Aksay (Rostov region). At present the Russian River Register specialists are examining the RSD44 project vessels, located in Rostov region.
Current repair of dry-cargo vessels and push-tugs is performed by ships’ crews at the fleet maintenance bases.
Before the navigation start all vessels will go through examination by the Russian River Register for compliance with standards and Rules of technical operation.
Reference: The Volga Shipping OJSC is one of the largest shipping companies in Russia, it was founded in 1843. It performs cargo transportation along the rivers and lakes of the country. According to the results of the navigation 5.6 mln tons of cargos were transported by the Company in 2015.
At the present time the Bor and the Volzhsky fleet maintenance bases are the company ship repair branches. The Volga Shipping Company is a principal shareholder of two shipyards - Borremflot JSC and Pamyat’ Parizhskoy Communy JSC and also a majority shareholder of Voznesenye Fleet Repair and Operation Base JSC.
