JSC "Admiralteiskie Verfi" launched ice-breaker "Ilya of Murom"

SAINT-PETERSBURG, 10.06.2016. At JSC “Admiralteiskie Verfi” (is included in JSC “United shipbuilding corporation”) was held a launching ceremony of ice-breaker “Ilya of Murom” of project 21180, being constructed for the purposes of Russian Navy. In the ceremonial event participated the head of technical directorate of Russian Navy rear admiral Igor Zvarich, governor of Saint-Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko and director of defense procurement department of MD of RF captain I rank Andrei Vernigora.

– It is symbolically that exactly 60 years ago on this very building block was laid down nuclear power ice-breaker ”Lenin”, which marked the commencement of construction of ice class vessels by “Admiralteiskie Verfi”, – underlined the general director of JSC “Admiralteiskie Verfi” Alexander Buzakov, – After five –year downtime today we are launching from the inclined building block a new vessel – support ice-breaker with great functional capabilities and in the autumn we are starting to construct two next-generation patrol ships of ice class for Russian Navy.

Governor of Saint-Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko congratulated the shipyard’s personnel with production of the next ice warrior: “I would like to state it is the second vessel named after epic hero Ilya of Murom. Its predecessor was built in 1965 and did military service for Russia in Pacific Fleet faithfully and loyally for 30 years. I wish glorious and well-favoured fortune to the new ship!”

An important event on entire russian shipbuilding scale was named the launching of the new ship by the director of defense procurement department of MD of RF captain I rank Andrei Vernigora: “Today we are attending the launching of the ice-breaker laid down a little over a year ago, and the customer does not have any doubts that this ship shall be delivered in due time. In the course of 311 years of its history shipyard “Admiralteiskie Verfi” always was a fair supplier for the state and Ministry of Defense considers it as one of the leading enterprises in shipbuilding industry and shall be placing here the orders for our fleet”.

“Ilya of Murom” – a single-deck multitask vessel provided for stationing of forces in ice conditions, was laid on 23 April of 2015. The vessel combines the capabilities of sea-going tug, ice-breaker and patrol ship and shall be used for support of Arctic force of Russian Navy.

Ice-breaker of project 21180 — a vessel of new generation with new principles of electric propulsion and modern propulsion plant. High manoeuvrability of the ice-breaker is achieved by fully rotatable mechanical double-screw pod drives and bow thruster, which increase the maneuvering data of the vessel during operation in ice conditions.

Shipboard control system of the vessel has a high degree of automation and integration. The ice-breaker is equipped with modern navigation complex, electronic mapping navigation information system. The main ship characteristics: displacement – 6 000 tons; length – 85 meters; moulded breath — 20 meters; moulded depth – 9,2 meters; draft – 6,8 meters; cruising capacity – up to 60 days; operating range – up to 9 000 miles; floatation ability – ice floe with thickness up to 1,5 meters; type of propulsor – diesel-electric ship with rudder propellers 3,5 MW each; crew – 35 persons.
