Aker Arctic joins a new EU funded project with aim to improve arctic shipping safety
A consortium of 13 research organisations and industrial partners from six countries has launched a joint development project, SEDNA, to address improved safety and efficiency in arctic ship operations. Funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, the three-year project sets out to develop a novel risk-based approach to arctic navigation, ship design and maritime operations.
SEDNA focuses on the main topics including the modern bridge systems with state of the art tools, improvement in voyage planning incorporating data transfer and big data utilisation, research on the anti-icing solutions, safety assessment of low flash point fuels as well as risk-based methodology in the design and operation for ice-going vessels.
"This international development project provides a good platform to further improve the areas in safety and efficiency of the designs for the arctic shipping and navigation," states Mr Reko-Antti Suojanen, Managing Director of Aker Arctic Technology Inc.
