Series of RS seminars at NEVA 2017

EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre

Stand F1017

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will be a participant to the XIV International Exhibition and Conference on Civil Shipbuilding, Navigation, Ports, Ocean and Shelf - NEVA 2017, where a series of seminars and presentations relating to new trends of the industry expansion and aspects of the RS customers most interest are scheduled to be held by RS.

Thus, one of the topical issues in marine shipping now is entering into force of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ship's Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention), the provisions hereof, in particular, require to ensure ballast water discharge during the loading of ships in marine ports only via special water treatment systems. RS specialists will inform of the types and operating principles of ballast water treatment plants, explain the possibilities of addressing issues concerning ship conversion, as well as practical aspects relating to compliance with the requirements of a new BWM Convention. The range of the seminar issues will enable the shipowners to have better understanding of the current situation in marine transportation and effective planning of their ships’ further operation.

Application of innovative materials in marine industry, in particular, polymeric composites, will also be one of the issues discussed at the RS seminars. At present, the specialists are more actively turned to the potential to apply such materials in shipbuilding due to their advantages as compared with shipbuilding steel − higher corrosion resistance and durability, reduced weight of structures and lower energy intensity during their manufacture. There are good prospects for them both in container production, in particular, tank containers for corrosive media transportation. The Register is striving to promptly respond to the current demands of the industry, actively carries out research and develops its normative base to ensure unimpeded application of such materials in the field of marine transport. These and a number of other issues will be covered at the seminar.

Within the seminars related to the International Code for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (Polar Code), the RS specialists will inform of the procedure for survey of ships for compliance with the requirements of this IMO instrument, scope of necessary documents, as well as of the RS Guidelines that allow every shipowner to independently define a list of the applicable Polar Code requirements for the particular ship. Great attention will be paid to the correlation of the Polar Code provisions and the similar requirements of the RS Rules for ship construction, stability, machinery installations, fire protection, life-saving appliances and other aspects.

Business program at the RS stand will be also focused on the RS human resources strategy implementation. Being dynamically developed, RS considers the personnel resource as the core asset; the Register welcomes every contact with the industry specialists and gives high priority to employing talented and ambitious young people. Exhibition participants seeking for the RS employment will be given a presentation on the existing and prospective opportunities for professional and career development in the organization.

Moreover, the results of the RS research activity, Ship Condition Assessment Program (CAP), new distinguishing marks relating to the use of gas fuel on board the ships (GFS, GRS and LNG bunkering ship) introduced by RS to improve informative value of the RS class notation for the shipowners, freighters and shipping companies, etc. are among the issues that will be addressed at the seminars.

On the last exhibition day, the RS stand will be the venue for the children’s programme presentation "We are Living in the Maritime Capital", developed by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping in cooperation with the Institute of Russian Literature (the Pushkin House) of Russian Academy of Sciences, an interactive large scale model museum "Petrovskaya Akvatoria" and St. Petersburg Maritime Resource Centre for marine students of secondary schools in St. Petersburg.
